Collaborate and Coordinate
FAFSA Memphis is a collaborative effort by Leadership Memphis’ action initiative, Memphis Talent Dividend and over 130 community partners. The purpose of FAFSA Memphis is to create a space where students and their families have access to local FAFSA events, resources, and deadlines in order to be college ready.
FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Despite being college eligible and in some cases even enrolled, some students will not attend in the fall and will instead “melt” away during the summer. Nationally about 10 to 20 percent of college eligible students melt away, most of which are low-income minority students planning to enroll in community college.
Through the Post-Secondary Access CAN, MTD and its community parents collaborate to present “ A Taste of College”. This event is used to address “summer melt.” MTD is able to host this event as an extension of its FAFSA Campaign. We wanted to be sure students who completed their FAFSA were well-informed on the next steps to actual college enrollment.

Graduate Memphis, an action initiative of Leadership Memphis and the Memphis Talent Dividend, launched in 2012. Thanks to a generous grant from the Plough Foundation, they were able to open our College Resource Center in the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library. It also means that they are able to offer all services completely for free!
They offer assistance dealing with defaulted student loans, scholarship resources, advising services and counseling as to which industries and careers will be best for you! They’ll find a school that works with your busy schedule and financial situation.
